THE EDUCATION ASSISTANCE SCHEME

Free tutoring for defence force families

One-on-one tutoring support for children and dependents of active ADF members.

The Education Assistance Scheme

“If a member’s child changes schools due to posting in Australia, their education may be disrupted. This Division assists with the cost of additional educational services. These services help the child meet and maintain their academic standards at the new school so that they don’t fall behind academically due to posting.” (PACMAN 8.4.8.1)

Eligible students working with ADF Tutoring can receive up to one year of free tutoring for defence force families.

Veterans can access a separate funding pool through the DVA available here >

How does payment work?

ADF pays us directly for lessons

If the ADF member is away for service reasons and it is not practical to seek reimbursement, the ADF can pay us directly.

ADF reimburses the member for expenses

For all other members, ADF will reimburse you for expenses incurred.

In both situations we will generate an invoice for the full period of services once eligibility has been confirmed. First lesson will be scheduled once payment has been received in full – either payable by the ADF or by the member who will then seek reimbursement from the ADF.

Frequently Asked Questions

Free Tutoring for Defence Force Families: A Lifeline for ADF Children’s Education

The life of Australian Defence Force (ADF) families is unique, characterized by frequent relocations, long deployments, and the everyday challenges associated with military service. Amidst these dynamics, ensuring consistent and high-quality education for their children can be particularly challenging. Recognizing these challenges, ADF Tutoring provides free tutoring services for defence force families, funded by the Australian government’s Education Assistance Scheme. This initiative aims to bridge educational gaps, offer personalized support, and help ADF children succeed academically, regardless of their circumstances.

The Challenges Faced by ADF Families

Frequent Relocations

One of the most significant challenges faced by ADF families is frequent relocations. Moving from one base to another often disrupts children’s education, as they have to adjust to new schools, curricula, and social environments. This can lead to gaps in learning and inconsistencies in academic progress.

Parental Deployments

Deployments of ADF personnel can be lengthy and emotionally taxing for families. The absence of a parent can affect a child’s emotional well-being, concentration, and academic performance. These periods of separation require additional emotional and educational support to help children cope and stay on track with their studies.

Educational Disparities

Different states and territories in Australia have varying educational standards and curricula. This disparity can create challenges for children who move frequently, as they must adapt to new academic expectations and teaching methods with each relocation.

ADF Tutoring: Providing Tailored Educational Support

ADF Tutoring addresses these challenges by offering free, personalized tutoring services to children of ADF members. Our program is designed to provide consistent, high-quality educational support that adapts to the unique needs of each child.

Personalized One-on-One Tutoring

Our tutoring services are personalized to meet the specific needs of each student. We offer one-on-one sessions with experienced tutors who are well-versed in the Australian curriculum. This individualized attention helps address specific academic challenges, whether in mathematics, English, science, or other subjects. By tailoring the tutoring sessions to the child’s needs, we ensure that they receive the targeted support necessary to succeed.

Flexible Online Tutoring

Given the unpredictable nature of military life, ADF Tutoring provides flexible online tutoring sessions. This approach allows children to continue receiving educational support regardless of their location. Whether stationed in remote areas or undergoing relocations, our online platform ensures that children have uninterrupted access to their tutors and learning resources.

Emotional and Academic Support

Our tutors are trained to understand the unique challenges faced by ADF children, including the emotional impact of parental deployments. They provide not only academic support but also encouragement and mentorship. This holistic approach helps build confidence, resilience, and a positive attitude towards learning.

The Impact of Free Tutoring on Defence Force Families

Academic Improvement

The primary goal of ADF Tutoring is to improve academic outcomes for ADF children. Personalized tutoring helps bridge gaps in knowledge, reinforce classroom learning, and improve overall academic performance. As children experience academic success, their confidence grows, leading to a more positive school experience.

Emotional Stability

The stability provided by regular tutoring sessions can be particularly beneficial during periods of parental deployment. The consistent support from tutors helps mitigate the emotional impact of a parent’s absence, providing children with a stable and supportive learning environment.

Strengthening Family Bonds

By alleviating some of the educational challenges faced by their children, ADF Tutoring helps reduce stress for defence force families. Parents can be reassured knowing that their children are receiving the support they need, allowing them to focus on their own responsibilities. This peace of mind can contribute to a more harmonious and supportive family environment.

  • Mark, an ADF Member: “Knowing that my children have access to quality tutoring, even when I’m deployed, gives me peace of mind. The tutors are amazing and truly understand our unique challenges.”
